2. The OJAC is looking for artwork that ‘responds’ to our collection. Create a work of art that communicates with one of the following pieces. Tell us what you think about the original art by creating art that reflects your style, idea or opinion.

Autobiography, 1968 Robert Rauschenberg Offset lithograph on paper Gift: Arch H. and Stella Rowan Foundation in Honor of Bob Green 2003.004.01-03 Collection of The Old Jail Art Center, Albany, TX - How could you make a self-portrait without creating an actual picture of yourself? - What kind of unique signature besides a finger print could you use to create a self-portrait? - Rauschenberg’s Autobiography is a series of prints. What other images would you use to create your self-portrait?

4. Spring Snow KANA HARADA, 2012 Foam sheet and mixed media 39 x 19 x 12 in. Courtesy Talley Dunn Gallery. Kana Harada uses foam to create art that “reflects the beauty within us all.” For Harada, beauty is best defined by her experiences in wilderness both in Japan and the U.S.A. -Harada uses foam to create sculptures of natural objects. What other objects from nature could be made from man-made materials? -Harada defines beauty through her own personal experience. How would you capture your own experience of beauty? - How could you reverse Harada’s method of making natural objects from man-made materials?

5. Monkey Series, No. 5 Kelly Fearing, 1966 Collage on Board 18x10 1985.013 - What kind of story can you tell by placing an animal in an imagined habitat? - How do different materials effect the story? Does it make it seem more real or more dream-like?

6. Sounding Sculpture Harry Bertoia Brass rods, brass base 25 ¼ x 7 x 7 Gift of Jewel Nail Bomar and William P. Bomar 92.096 -If you created a tonal sculpture, what kind of sound would it make? - What kind of materials would you use to create a sculpture that could make sound? - How would could you design your sculpture to make it sound differently? Harry Bertoia was interested in creating movement and bell-like sound through design in his tonal sculptures like Sounding Sculpture.

7. Four Season II (Transformer) Randy Twaddle, 1993. Charcoal on paper. 31 x 22” Rt#174.2 - What objects do you see in everyday but overlook? - How could you focus or zoom in on an everyday object to make it appear abstract? -Four Seasons II (Transformer) is part of a series. What objects would you link together to create a series?

8. Each participant may submit one work. Accepted entry types include: sculpture, drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, graphic art, digital and traditional photography. Artists must include an artist statement with each work. The written/typed statement should be no longer than one page and should describe how the artwork ties into the exhibition theme. Entries due (artwork, application form and written response) by Monday, February 25 th at 5 p.m. All entries juried by OJAC Junior Docents and Education Staff Chosen entries will be exhibited with original artworks from the OJAC collection on opening night, March 3 rd from 3 to 4 PM!
