2 Objectives To provide an understanding of the following –Specifications –Use –Maintenance –Safety

3 Pressurized Water Extinguisher

4 Specifications Stainless steel shell 2A Rating 2 ½ gallons of water –1 to 2 oz of class A foam 100 psi operating pressure 45’ to 55’ discharge range 50 second discharge time

5 Use Small class A fires –Ordinary combustibles

6 Maintenance After use –Fill 2/3 with water Fill to bottom of white internal sleeve –Add 1-2 oz. of class A foam –Pressurize to 100 psi via Schrader valve Inspected annually by certified company Hydrostatically tested every 5 years at 200 psi

7 Dry Chemical Extinguisher

8 Specifications Steel shell 20A:120BC rating Mono-Ammonium Phosphate base chemical Pressurized to 195 psi 20 lbs of extinguishing agent Discharge Range – 15’-25’

9 Use Class A fires –Ordinary combustibles Class B fires –Gasoline, diesel, alcohols, ect. –Effective up to 120 square feet –Based on a non expert use Class C fires –Does not conduct electricity

10 Maintenance Serviced by certified company Inspected annually by certified company Hydrostatically tested every 5 years at 585 psi Shake monthly to avoid caking

11 Carbon Dioxide Extinguisher

12 Specifications Aluminum shell 10B:C rating Carbon Dioxide 1800 psi operating pressure 15 lbs extinguishing agent 39 lbs gross weight Discharge range – 3’-8’

13 Use Class B fires –Gasoline, diesel, alcohols, ect. Class C fires –Does not conduct electricity

14 Maintenance Serviced by a certified company –10% loss in gross weight requires service Inspected annually by certified company Hydrostatically tested every 5 years at 3000 psi

15 General Maintenance of Extinguishers Inspect extinguisher daily Check for leaks, dents, and corrosion Check condition of hose and nozzle Ensure valve assembly is tight Ensure extinguisher is full Ensure extinguisher is fully pressurized Ensure annual inspection date is current Ensure hydrostatic test date is current

16 Safety Use appropriate PPE Know extinguisher’s limitations Use appropriate extinguisher for specific class of fire CO2 is a simple asphyxiate Hoisting extinguishers is not recommended
