SPIRITUAL GIFTS “The gifts of the Spirit are not trophies, talents, traits or toys. The gifts of the Spirit are God’s supernatural expressions of love, caring, kindness, healing and concern— bestowed on us and through us.” John Wimber (Founder, Vineyard movement) “Spiritual gifts are like God’s power tools.” Rich Nathan (Pastor, Columbus Vineyard Church)
I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. ~ John 14:12
There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men. 7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. ~ 1 Corinthians 12:4-7
Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. 11 If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen. ~ 1 Peter 4:10-11
“While some people are used by the Lord consistently in certain ways, we also believe the Lord is sovereign over the gifts and may supply different gifts on different occasions.” ~ Rich Nathan
To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines. ~ 1 Corinthians 12:8-11
WORD OF WISDOM: Gives God’s direction—to lead a group or individual; may help solve a problem, discern God’s plan; give a course of action. God shows us what He sees so we know what to do.
WORD OF KNOWLEDGE: God gives Spirit-inspired insight in a contemporary situation. Includes Scripture, information about a situation or condition in someone’s life where God wants to encourage or heal.
