1 1 | Program Name or Ancillary Texteere.energy.gov Water Power Peer Review 51-Mile Hydroelectric Power Project PI: Jim Gordon Earth By Design, Inc. Email: jgrenewables@hotmail.com (541) 385-1135jgrenewables@hotmail.com November, 2011 Demonstrating new methodologies and technology to reduce the LCOE for small, hydropower development Advanced Technologies and Methodologies for Small Hydropower Development

2 2 | Wind and Water Power Programeere.energy.gov Purpose, Objectives, & Integration Project Purpose: Promote cost effective, sustainable small hydropower through advanced technologies & methodologies. Reduce the LCOE to less than $0.07 per kWh. Capitalize on the undeveloped resource potential offered by sustainable, small hydropower Demonstrate the advanced project technologies and assessment of its cost, performance & reliability Relation to Program Objectives: Effectively transfer the technical and economic results of the project based on real-world construction and operations to facilitate widespread adoption of this new technology with reduced costs, times, and risks to the industry. Demonstrate reliable, cost-effective, highly-efficient and flexible technology to capitalize on small scale hydropower opportunities previously unattainable.

3 3 | Wind and Water Power Programeere.energy.gov Technical Approach Technical Approach: Year One: Oak Ridge National Laboratories (ORNL) will be evaluating, and reporting about the model, previous deployment, physical, and Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) results during turbine manufacturing and provide comparisons in efficiency and output to other turbines. Year Two: ORNL will assist with the testing parameters, evaluate and analyze operational data of the advanced technology, evaluate the financial aspects of this project and provide a thorough report for submission to a peer-reviewed publication that conveys the experimental findings and discusses their implications for future application and implementation.

4 4 | Wind and Water Power Programeere.energy.gov Technical Approach Additional Key Issues: Refining Levelized Cost of Energy model for hydropower using the innovative methodologies in construction and advanced technology. Providing publications that can be used to develop cost-models for future hydro projects where previously considered cost-prohibitive due to capital costs and/or low-income. ORNL will review and comment on the computer tools developed by CleanPower, that are based on the empiric data from model testing.
