3. Plot (definition) Plot is the organized steps or sequence of events that make up a story. Every plot is made up of a series of incidents that are related to one another.

4. 1. Exposition This usually occurs at the beginning of a short story. Here the characters are introduced. We also learn about the setting of the story. Most importantly, we are introduced to the main conflict (main problem). Main Conflict Ends Exposition and Introduces Rising Action

5. 2. Rising Action This part of the story begins to develop the conflict(s). Building of interest or suspense occurs. Characters work to solve conflict.

6. 3. Climax Highest point of tension in the story. Main character comes face to face with ending their conflict.

7. 4. Falling Action Tension decreases. The conflict(s) is over.

8. 5. Resolution Shows how the characters have changed or affected by the conflict. Everything is wrapped up neatly.

10. Hansel And Gretel

11. 1. Exposition Tiny cottage, woodcutter, stepmother and two kids. No food in the cupboard, stepmother convinces father to get rid of kids. He takes them into the woods.

12. 2. Rising Action Hansel drops white rocks, leads them back home. Father leads them back into the forest. Kids have bread, leaves trail again. Birds eat trail, come across Candy House.

13. 2. Rising Action Cont. Witch locks Hansel in cage to fatten him up. Gretel made to clean house

14. 3. Climax Witch tells Gretel to light oven to cook Gretel. Gretel acts like oven isn’t hot enough. When Witch checks, Gretel pushes her in and closes the door, trapping the Witch.

15. 4. Falling Action Gretel frees Hansel. Children leave the house safely with her treasure.

16. 5. Resolution Children run home, find father weeping. He has disposed of Stepmother. They live happily ever after.
