zYou are invited to participate in the annual “Saber Science Challenge.” z You may participate in your choice of 8 events. zThe competitions will run during Catholic Schools Week. zMedals for the top five entries in each event. zCertificates of Participation will be given to all

zOpen to students in grades five to eight zMay participate individually or as a team of two zEvents include: Can Race, Naked Egg Drop zPropeller Propulsion, Tower Building, zJunkyard Challenge, Mouse Trap Vehicle, zWhatever Floats Your Boat, Battery Buggy.

Students design and build a structure that holds up to 15 kg

Construct a free standing tower prior to the event. Maximum height will be 1 meter. Can’t be secured to the testing surface with tape, etc.) Must support a cup and 3 golf balls for at least 5 seconds. Must have a free standing cup that will hold 3 golf balls.

The tower may be made of the following items: Styrofoam or paper plates (maximum 10 ½ inch), cups, and bowls. Paper or soft plastic straws / hollow stir sticks. String, line, thread, or tape (may not be used to secure to testing surface) Paper no larger than 8 ½” X 11” (weight of 20# or less) Rubber bands no larger than size #64 (1/4” wide) Any plastic bags less than 1 gallon size.
