3 ICT in Morocco  There are number of institutions that are involved in regulating and setting up policies for the ICT sector:  IT Department  National Regulatory Agency of Telecom (ANRT)  Broadcasting High Authority  Ministry of Communication  Ministry of Trade and Industry  Ministry of Modernization of public sectors

4 IT Department  IT Department (Department in charge of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology) is a government administration unit in charge of developing and implementing policies related to Post and Information Technology.  It participates in the conceptualization of general orientations of governmental policies in the field of information technology, telecommunications, posts and network development and prepares government action plan on ITC domains.

5 Laws  Law 24-96: Adopted in 1997, liberalization of telecommunication sector and creation of National Regulatory Agency of Telecom (ANRT).  Law 55-01 : Extends universal service to ICT access including Internet.

6  Cellular phone: 7,8 million (penetration rate: 26,06%).  Fixed phone : 1,35 million (penetration rate: 4,4%).  Number of PCs: 700 000 (Penetration rate: 2.36%).  280 000 household have PC.  TV: 4 100 000 (76% household have a TV). Some Telecommunication statistics Source ANRT 2004
