MnDOT-DEED Highway Heavy Construction Training program provides Pre-Apprentice Highway Construction Laborer training and certification to targeted Minnesota citizens (women/minorities) who have been historically/currently underrepresented in Minnesota’s transportation construction industry Funded/supported by the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) Developed/delivered by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) and HHCT District affiliated WorkForce Centers (WFC)

10 days - Pre-Apprentice Highway Construction Laborer Training/Certification Orientations to the highway construction industry OSHA-30 Federal Safety Certification MnDOT Flagger Training Physical wellness, nutrition and conditioning Power, pneumatic and hand tool use Highway construction terminology Industry applicable mathematics Job search methods and resources Job leads and coaching/advisement after training Transitional financial assistance after hire

Must be female or minority Must own vehicle and have current insurance Must have valid and unrestricted driver’s license Must not possess apprenticeships or previous training in construction occupations Must be high school graduate or have earned GED Must have e-mail Must have telephone (or v-mail/message service) Must achieve National Career Readiness Certification (NCRC) Silver/level 4 or higher See brochure and FAQ sheets for more information

Free of charge and available at most larger WFCs NCRC tests must be scheduled – no “walk-ins” Registration creates access to Keytrain – an online test mentoring/skills training program HHCT-NCRC test consists of 3-parts – “Reading for Information”, “Locating Information”, “Applied Math.” Be sure to ask for the “3-part HHCT-NCRC test” and request printouts of your test results HHCT-NCRC test is approximately 4 hours You can achieve several certified skill levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum NCRC certificates applicable to many occupations

1) Read the HHCT program brochure and the 2- sided FAQ sheets thoroughly before you fill out the 3 page application form 2) Complete the 3-part NCRC test at the WorkForce Center and request copies of your results 3) Fill out the application completely and legibly 4) Send in the 3 page application by mail, as an e- mail attachment, fax it yourself or give it to your WorkForce Center Representative for faxing. Be sure to include copies of your 3 NCRC scores. Call the State Coordinator with any questions

Application will be reviewed and screened Successful applicants will be contacted by e-mail and sent an invitation/schedule for either a telephone or an in-person interview Declined applicants will not be contacted. (Applicants who want to know their status may call or e-mail State Program Coordinator.) Interview is usually about 60-90 minutes Background and documentation check will be performed after interview Successful HHCT program candidates will be notified by e-mail and scheduled for training

MnDOT-DEED HHCT-2015 program to be delivered in St Paul, Owatonna, Duluth and Bemidji Districts Training is delivered once per year in each District. Training sessions are very condensed/intense, two weeks long and delivered in early/mid Spring. Incomplete/improperly completed applications will not be considered – follow all directions carefully Candidates must successfully meet/complete all eligibility requirements, NCRC tests and interview For an application status check or additional program information call 651-642-0704 or e-mail curt.sammann@state.mn.us
