1 FRACTIONS THE JOURNEY BEGINS

2 Addition of Fractions Visit this website to learn the definition of numerator and denominator. Click on the Learn pencil Now practice and see how well you do!

3 Games Practice your abilities with these games.

4 Subtraction of Fractions
You subtract the same way you add them. Subtract the numerators and put the answer over the common denominator. Do not subtract the denominator! 3/4 – 1/4 = 2/4 5/6 – 3/6 = 2/6 You try this one. 8/9 – 5/9 =________ Write the problem with the answer on a note card and give it to your teacher. She will give you a treat if you have the right answer!

5 Equivalent Fractions 1/2 2/4 3/6 4/8
1/ / / /8 Complete the exercises from this website.

6 Rule: Whatever you multiply the numerator by you must multiply the denominator by the same number.
The picture below shows two different fractions that are equal to a half. All you have to do is multiply the numerator (top number) and the denominator (bottom number) by the same value and you have an equivalent fraction. 1/ /4 1x2=2 2x2=4

7 Watch and Learn Click on the star that says Equivalent Fractions when you go to this website.

8 Simplifying Fractions
Simplifying or reducing fractions is very similar to finding an equivalent fraction except you will be dividing the numerator and denominator by the same number. Look at these models and examples.

9 Now you try it!!

10 Multiplying Fractions
When multiplying fractions, we multiply the two numerators and the two denominators. That gives us a product on top and another product on the bottom. Check out the following examples. You will need to simplify your answers.

11 You can do it NOW! Multiplying Fraction Practice Fractions Games
