The picture below shows two different fractions that are equal to a half. All you have to do is multiply the numerator (top number) and the denominator (bottom number) by the same value and you have an equivalent fraction.

8. Simplifying Fractions
Simplifying or reducing fractions is very similar to finding an equivalent fraction except you will be dividing the numerator and denominator by the same number.
