AKA: Manual Eng. (ME) or (Manually Coded Eng. (MCE), Seeing Essential Eng. (SEE 1), Local Sign Systems
Visual code for Eng. Language
Assist deaf children in learning Eng.
Follows Eng. Exactly
Same word order, grammatical markers
Can be used simultaneously w/ voiced Eng.
Borrows many ASL signs
Includes invented signs for grammar & vocab
Uses occasional FS
Widely used in public schools
Used by deaf children in formal situations
Rarely used by d/Deaf adults or in social situations
