2. Introduction “Chomp…Chomp…Chomp” This might be the innocent sound of something happily eating it’s lunch, or it could be the sound of something happily eating your house! Termite damage

3. What does the termite look like?  A termite looks like an ant, except it has pinchers. The pinchers are facing each other.  The termite has humps on it. Termites do not have eyes. Termites have an exoskeleton. It has a thorax and abdomen. Its head is shaped like a jelly bean. Its antennas have little circles.

4. What is the termites habitat?  A termite lives in dry wood. They build their nests below the earth`s surface. About 40 termite species live in North America, north of Mexico. They are found most often in Africa, Australia, Asia and South America. Termites may live inside trees.

5. What does the termite eat and how does it hunt?  Termites eat furniture, doors, floors. Termites digest wood with the help of tiny organisms that live in their digestive systems. More bugs are inside of these bugs! Organisms such as bacteria and protozoans are responsible for breaking down cellulose.

6. All about termite babies.  The baby eggs look like tiny beans. The nymph looks like a white ant and you can barely see their pinchers. The termites live up to two to five years.. While nymphs grow, worker termites feed and care for nymphs. When the colony needs food or needs to build a nest, nymphs turn into worker termites.
