7 5 interesting facts of Guatemala 1) In the Maya-Toltec language Guatemala means “ Land of the trees”. 2) Spanish is the official language of Guatemala, but there are over 20 different Mayan dialects that are spoken throughout the country. 3) Shortly after Guatemala gained its Independence from Spain, the United Provinces of Central America were formed. 4) The country has a total area of 110,000 square km. The capital of the state is Guatemala City. 5) Guatemala is a storehouse of a number of libraries and museums.
