2 SEI Methods The Central India Eye and Medical Study (CIEMS) is a population based cohort study carried out in rural Central India. Out of total eligible 5885 individual 4711 participated in the study response rate 80.1%

3 SEI Methods Mean age 49.5 yrs median 47 yrs (range 30 -100 yrs) Out of 9422 eyes of 4711 subjects IOP measurements were available for 9338 eyes 99.5%

4 SEI Methods Complete ocular examination was done including ultasound CCT and Tonometry using Goldmann applanation tonometry. Eyes with scarred corneas were excluded from the study.

5 SEI Results Mean IOP was 13.6 ± 3.4mmHg (median 14.0 mmHg, range 2-56 mmHg). Mean CCT was 514 ± 33µm

6 SEI Results Ocular corelations –Higher corneal power ( p = 0.004) –Greater central corneal thickness ( p<0.001) –Higher myopic refractive power ( p=0.001)

7 SEI Results Systemic correlations –Diastolic BP ( p < 0.001) –Pulse rate ( p = 0.005) –Body mass index ( p = 0.001) Socioeconomic factors –Level of education ( p = 0,05) –Livestock ownership ( p = 0.08)

10 SEI Discussion Mean and Median IOP measured in Central India was 14mmHg, following a Gaussian distribution curve. It is similar to the value reported from South India and slightly lower than studies done in Caucasians. It may be related to lower central corneal thickness measurements in our study.(514±33 μm)

11 SEI Discussion There was association of IOP with myopia in our study correlating with other studies. IOP and BP also has similar correlations as in other population based studies (Rotterdam Study) IOP was found to be associated with body mass index. It was not correlated with age.
