What is Islam?  Islam is submission and obedience to the order of Allah and His Messenger with love, hope and fear.  Islam is the second largest religion Practiced in the World  1.3-1.4 Billion Muslims in The World  10% Arabs  6 - 9 Million Muslims in North America  Fastest Growing Religion in The World  http://www.foreignpolicy.com/story/cms.php?story_id=3835 http://www.foreignpolicy.com/story/cms.php?story_id=3835  http://www.cnn.com/WORLD/9704/14/egypt.islam/ http://www.cnn.com/WORLD/9704/14/egypt.islam/ 3

Who is the Muslim?  It is necessary to accept; "There is no God but Allah and Muhammad (peace be on him) is the servant and messenger of Allah"  Pillars of Islam? 4

Pillars of Islam? 1. Testimony of Faith; Declare in Arabic that "There is no God but Allah and Muhammad (peace be on him) is the servant and messenger of Allah“ 2. Establish Prayers; Five prayers each day 3. Giving Zakat (charity); ….general rate: 2.5% of saving (not income!!) 4. Fasting during month of Ramadan, daylight hours. 5. Pilgrimage (Hajj); every Muslim man and woman (if physically and economically able) should try to make the pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in their life-time 5

Statement of Faith (Iman)  Iman (Faith) means to believe in the heart, to confess by the tongue and to act with the parts of the body.  By some words and deeds it may increase and by some words and deeds it may decrease.  It increases by obedience to Allah and good deeds  While it decreases by sins and evil acts. 6

Pillars of Iman (Faith)  To believe in:  Allah  His Angles  His Messengers  His Books  The Last Day (Day of Judgment) 7

What is Belief in Allah?  You should believe that Allah is the Sole Creator Sustainer Provider and the One in Whose Hand is the disposal of all affairs. Everything stands in need of Him, but He stands in need of none. He is the Only One Who is worthy of being worshipped. He has the Best Names and Perfect Attributes.  Tawhid (Monotheism) vs. Shirk (assocating someone with Allah).  Closest to us……NO intermediaries! 8

What is Belief in Last Day?  To believe that Allah has ordained a fixed term for everything, and a term for this world. He will assuredly raise the dead from their graves and will account for everyone their deeds in this world.  On that Day of Resurrection, rewards and punishments will be assigned. Every one will be justly rewarded or punished. 9

The Prophets  Chosen by Allah  Humans  Best people of their times  We make no difference between them 10

Muhammad (Peace and Blessings be upon him)  A servant and messenger of Allah  The last Prophet to the mankind.  His Life and His message preserved till today  The best example to be followed  One of His miracles is the Qur’an 11

The Qur’an  Revealed to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) through Gabriel (Angle of Revelation) over a period of 23 years.  Preserved as it is in original language (Arabic) It was memorized by thousands of people during the lifetime of Muhammad (peace be upon him) and then this memorization was passed down from teacher to student for generation after generation, from mouth to ear and from one nation to another. Today every single Muslim has memorized some part of the Quran in the original Arabic language that it was revealed in over 1,400 years ago, even though most of them are not Arabs. 12

Miraculous nature of Qur’an  Preserved from corruption “Verily We; it is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Quran) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption).” {Chapter 15, Verse 9}  Challenges us to produce the like “Say: "If the whole of mankind and Jinns were to gather together to produce the like of this Quran they could not produce the like thereof, even if they backed up each other with help and support” {Chapter 17, Verse 88} 13

Miraculous nature of Qur’an  No mistakes in grammar, meaning and context “ Haven't the unbelievers considered if this was from other than Allah, they would find within it many contradictions? {Chapter 4: Verse 82}  Scientific evidences Scinetific_Evidences.mht Scinetific_Evidences.mht http://www.scienceislam.com/ http://al-islam.com/maknazlatin/Tree.asp?l=eng&p=0-4-8-4- 14

 Islam respect a human for being a human not for any other reason.  Islam dose not distinguish between two races, or two groups of people, or between two colors. Equality among people

 " O Mankind! We have created you from a male and female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honorable of you in the sight of Allah is he who has most taqwa (fear of Allah) among of you. Verily, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware.“ {Chapter 49, verse 13}  Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) addressed the people signifying that concept during the last pilgrimage, saying: "O People! Your God (Allah) is one; your father is one; no preference of an Arab neither over non-Arab nor of a non-Arab over an Arab or red over black or black over red except for the most righteous. Verily the most honored of you is the most righteous." Equality among people

 Associating Partners to Allah  Killing and Injustice  Disobeying Parents  Alcohol and Drugs  Fornication and Adultery  Gambling and Lies  Interest Prohibitions in Islam?

 Muslims believe, respect and revere Jesus (peace be upon him), and await his Second Coming. They consider him one of the greatest of God’s Messengers to mankind. The Quran confirms his virgin birth.  (A Chapter of the Quran is entitled “Mary”), and Mary is considered one of the purest women in all creation. Jesus and Mary in Islam

The Virgin Mary (peace be upon her) Chapter 3: Verses 42-43

Purpose of mankind  To worship Allah alone- ‘ibadah  The earth is a working field for the hereafter  Paradise is the Eternity life  Paradise is at the end of the Straight-Path 20

Accountability  Every thought, action and deed will be judged  Hell is a real place prepared by Allah for those who do not believe in Him, rebel against His laws, and reject His messengers.  Hell is an actual place, not a mere state of mind or a spiritual entity.  The horrors, pain, anguish, and punishment are all real, but different in nature than their earthly counterparts.  Hell is the ultimate humiliation and loss, and nothing is worse than it 21

Accountability  “Our Lord! Surely, whom You admit to the Fire, indeed You have disgraced him, and never will the wrongdoers find any helpers.” (Quran 3:192)  “Know they not that whoever opposes and shows hostility to Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad), certainly for him will be the Fire of Hell to abide therein? That is the extreme disgrace.” (Quran 9:63) 22

The Mercy of Allah  Allah’s mercy surpasses everything else  We earn His mercy  Repentance remove all sins BUT,  Repentance should be sincere  Those who follow guidance shall have no fear nor shall they grieve 23
