Radius, Diameter, and Circumference of a Circle Lesson 7 (3 rd 6 Weeks) TEKS 6.6C
2
Circle A closed curve with all its points the same distance from a fixed point called the center. Center
3
A radius (r) of a circle is a line segment joining the center of the circle and any point on the circle. The radius of a circle is half the diameter, or r = ½ d. fffff
4
A diameter (d) of a circle is a line segment that joins any two points on the circle and passes through the center of the circle. The diameter of a circle is twice the radius, or d = 2r fffff f f
5
The circumference (C) of a circle is the distance around the circle. fffff
6
Pi ( ) The ratio of the circumference to the diameter. Which is approximately 3.14 or 3 Circumference Diameter C d ==
7
Formulas for Circumference C = d The circumference of any circle is equal to times the diameter. Since the diameter of any circle is equal to twice the radius, the circumference can also be found with this formula: C = 2 r or C = 2 r
