Transportation Tuesday TRANSPORTATION TUESDAY Stopping & Parking You should never park or stop your vehicle on busy traffic lanes or in no waiting and parking zones. Stopping & parking of vehicles in prohibited zones has long been a source of serious annoyance!!

Transportation Tuesday Here are some stopping & parking offences: Parking over yellow lines along the edge of the carriageway. Parking on sidewalks and grass which is inconvenient to people walking through. Blocking driveways and entrances to buildings. Double parking, leaving vehicles unattended and blocking the exit for others. Parking in disabled slots. Parking in reserved and restricted areas.

Transportation Tuesday Stopping and parking offences, continued…. Parking in fire lane/aisle Exceeding parking time. Occupying two parking slots. Parking and stopping on bridges and highways. Stopping at bus stops and taxi stands. Stopping over pedestrians crossing while queued in traffic. Stopping at shops and groceries near the roadway. Unofficially reserving parking spots.

Transportation Tuesday Vehicle parking regulations Parking is prohibited at all loading docks, entrances to buildings, crosswalks, fire hydrants, places posted with signs, yellow curbs or anywhere the vehicle constitutes a safety or other hazard. Vehicles must be parked in marked and permitted parking spaces.

Transportation Tuesday Here are some tips: Observe signage to see if parking is permitted. The white markers are guidelines. Make sure to park within and maintain equal space with the vehicles on either side. Try and avoid double parking. Wait to see if someone is moving out. Never leave your vehicle unattended in a no parking and stop zone, you never know what might hit it! When attempting parallel parking, trying parking in the direction vehicles are moving.

Transportation Tuesday More tips… Once parked, open doors only when safe to do so on the street or curb side. When entering traffic from a parked position, turn on your signal to indicate to others that you are moving out. Avoid parking on pavements as it can be a hazard for the blind, disabled and elderly people or those with prams and push chairs. It is also damaging the pave way. Do not stop on busy traffic lanes unless it is an emergency and make sure to turn your hazard lights on.
