As with National 3,4 and 5 you will start the course with the Drama Skills unit. This requires you not only devising and acting in your drama, but at Higher level you will also direct your scene. This has to be backed up with evidence which you will keep in written form in your Drama Skills booklets. You must pass this internal component of the course or no overall course award will be gained. It is crucial that you attend all classes as progress in a performance cannot be made if not all cast members are present.
You are required to perform in 2 contrasting Acting pieces for your final exam to be assessed by the SQA live on the day of the exam. OR You may if you wish, decide to specialise in a Theatre Skill rather than perform. If so you have to do SET and one other Theatre Skill of your choice. You have to complete a ‘Preparation for Performance essay ‘ about both Acting pieces for 10 marks. Together your practical work and your essay is worth 60 marks out of 100.
Commitment Enthusiasm Hard Work Collaboration Communicating – Listening and Talking Homework Attendance Enjoyment!
We have to visit the theatre in order to view a production that we can write about in our final examination paper in May/June. We may look at themes and issues, its effectiveness, impact on the audience, the use of Acting and the Theatre Arts and we will give our opinions justifying our answers with clear examples from the production.
You will use a piece of text and stage it in class. Some pupils will act while others will be responsible for the Theatre Skills e.g. Lights, Sound etc. You will have to keep a careful written log of all you do in your Production Skills booklets as this is evidence for the SQA. You must pass this internal component of the course or no overall course award will be gained.
