9 2013 Summer Design Program Science Data !!! 9 Expected (from 2009 flight) Measured The SparkFun Geiger counter data matched the flight data from 2009 verifying it was correct. The SSEL Geiger counter data had a similar profile vs. altitude. The difference between the two Geiger counts was due to the different tubes used. The SparkFun had a larger diameter tube, a larger window and a higher sensitivity (detect > 7MeV). The SSEL Geiger counter was selected for higher energy events in orbit so it had a smaller diameter and lower sensitivity (detect > 12 MeV). The silicon-based sensor detected two events during ascent. These are suspected to be due to heavy ion strikes. Heavy Ion Strike
