4 Introduction The History of Łódź is unique. In the second half of the 19th century Łódź was already the second largest city in the Kingdom of Poland. The owners of the factories such as Ludwik Geyer, Karol Scheibler and Izrael Poznański created a special atmosphere in our city. They owned the largest cotton factories. The Łódź citizens, irrespective of their nationality have provided for multinational and multicultural scene of the Promised Land.

5 Łódź these days  Łódz has a lot of investors, which renovate and rebuilt our famous landmarks. They invested almost 2 billion dollars in Łódź. The city is an academic centre. The Łódź film school, Museum of Art. Łódź is also an important centre of cultural life. The Łódź film school The Museum of Art

7 Manufaktura is the biggest shopping center in Poland and one of the most enjoyable in Europe. It is located in Zachodnia Street next to Poznanski’s Palace (it was his home for a long time) – both buildings belonged to him. Manufaktura was used as the factory of textile. All the inhabitants are proud of it these days. Employees of Izrael Poznański

8 oznański’s Palace It is located in Ogrodowa 15 Street. It was built in the XIX century. Izrael Poznanski bought it in 1887. After that it was rebuilt between 1888-1903. Until 1975 it is use as the Museum of Łódź History. There are lots of ballrooms.  It is named The Louvre of Łódź

9 Karol Scheibler’s first factory, in 1854 he came to Łódź with a steam engine. He built the biggest building of cotton spinning, area for workers, fire brigade and hospital. Księży młyn is surronded by the park. Księży Młyn Residence  For several years inhabitants have been trying to add Księży Młyn to UNESCO List.

10 White Fabric belonged to Ludwik Geyer. It was built between 1835-1837. There were mechanic spinning and weaving. The manufacturer had the first steam engine and industrial chimney in the Kingdom of Poland. White Factory  Nowadays there is Central Textile Museum in The White Factory.

11 A 4-star hotel is the best in Poland. The building belonged to Izrael Poznański too. It was opened in 2009 in the historical building of the former spinning mill. Andel’s Hotel

12 Herbst’s Palace It was built in 1875. The building was home to the oldest daughter of Karol Scheibler. In 1980 it became a museum where the features of the design from the time of prewar manufacturers are displayed.  In 2012 the owners opened an Old Art Gallery, where we can admire old pictures.

13 Willa of Biedermann It was built in 1912. It is a richly-decorated building with precious sculptures inside. The first owner was Alfred Bidermann but after his death his son-Robert became the owner.  According to the legend in the second World War, Bruno (son of Robert) from fear of German put on a Polish uniform and shot his wife and daughter. After that he commited a suicide.
