6 CED as a Catalyst Community Economic Development can act as a Catalyst: a one time investment with many positive ripple effects in the local economy and community 6

7 Why is this a High Impact Strategy for Community Action A strategy built around using existing resources, relationships, and innovative ideas to leverage new investment in our communities. Investment directed at moving people out of poverty 7

8 Entrepreneurial Thinking “Entrepreneurship is the pursuit of opportunity without regard to resources currently controlled” -Harvard Business School prof Howard Stevenson 8

9 Successful CED Combination of an innovative mindset and practical business savvy. But just as important is a deep knowledge of the community and its needs and resources. …sounds like Community Action! 9

10 In My State… Discussion Questions Are the Agencies in my state already engaged in this type of work? Why or Why Not? (Are there any specific enabling conditions or obstacles?) Do I think that Community Action Agencies are well suited for this type of work? What could make them better suited for it? What is one action I can take when I get home to help support CED activities in my state? 10
