Equipment and Software Project Technology and Assessment in Health and Exercise Science By: Devon Vicari

Location: Commercial Gym Position: Fitness Floor Manager Focus: Pre and post assessments of members as well as monitor and guidance during work out programs

Plan For Our New Technology  There are two very critical parts of developing and maintaining an exercise program.  To get our member’s success rate to high and their fitness levels are satisfying we have to incorporate an accurate initial assessment so the member knows where they began, where they need to improve, and how to approach that goal.  A second very critical part of an exercise program is upkeep or “check points” throughout the program so they know improvements are happening or not happening and so they know to change it up.  My plan is to set up a few pieces of equipment and software available to all members at their convenience to have a proper assessment when they begin and continuous monitoring during their program.

FitMate Pro: Max and SubMax Oxygen Consumption  Able to perform fitness assessment and functional evaluation on individuals willing to receive clear and comprehensive feedback concerning their wellness and physical fitness conditions  Direct measurement of VO2max during and up to maximal exertion incremental exercise protocol  Fitmate PRO manages also a number of measurements such as anthropometrics, cardiovascular muscular fitness & flexibility which are really important for the assessment of the overall fitness status  Fitmate PRO uses indirect calorimeter to measure RMR with scientific precision and a short questionnaire to estimate the energy expenditure induced by lifestyle, physical activity and exercise

FitMate Pro: Max and SubMax Oxygen Consumption  High Proven Accuracy  No calibration required  Maintenance free  Connectivity & memory capacity  Battery main operating  Amazing Software features  Exercise Prescription  Cardiovascular risk analysis  Daily caloric intake

FitMate Pro: Max and SubMax Oxygen Consumption

Bioelectrical Impedance  Bioelectrical impedance measures the resistance of body tissues to the flow of a small, harmless electrical signal  The proportion of body fat can be calculated as the current flows more easily through the parts of the body that are composed mostly of water (such as blood, urine & muscle) than it does through bone, fat or air  This method of body composition analysis is very simple and quick to perform

Bioelectrical Impedance

Electronic Blood Pressure Cuff  Lightweight and portable monitor displays blood pressure and pulse rate on large, easy to read digital display

Chest Strap Heart Rate Monitor  To get an optimum workout it is important to pace your exercise. You want your heart rate at the proper intensity level for an extended period of time.  If your heart rate gets too high your activity can become counter productive, if it is too low you are not getting any substantial health benefits  By using a heart rate monitor you can determine an exercise level that will optimize the burning of fat and you will improve your metabolism

Chest Strap Heart Rate Monitor  Healthy Heart Zone (Warm up) --- 50 - 60% of maximum heart rate  Fitness Zone (Fat Burning) --- 60 - 70% of maximum heart rate  Aerobic Zone (Endurance Training) --- 70 - 80% of maximum heart rate  Anaerobic Zone (Performance Training) - -- 80 - 90% of maximum heart rate  Red Line (Maximum Effort) --- 90 - 100% of maximum heart rate

Web-Based Fitness Log  Each member will have own page which will be available to access from home and at the gym.  Gym employees will update each member’s webpage after initial assessment and every 4 months after they recheck.  Members can access webpage at home so they can update their profile with their daily work outs, new findings, successes, or suggestions along with advice.  The program is accessible for any member who will plan to motivate themselves or others.

$$$ Budget $$$  FitMate Pro: Max and Submax Oxygen Consumption = $7900  Bioelectrical Impedance = $39.99 (3)  Electronic Blood Pressure Cuff = $22.95 (5)  Chest Strap Heart Rate Monitor = $59.85 (50)  TOTAL = $11,127.22

Benefits to Our New Technical Approach  Better educates our members in the sense of their own personal fitness  Gives accurate measurements of health level  Provides a health status which will be specify their exercise program  Motivation  Shows progress  Prevention and Awareness  Provides the members a purpose of a healthy and active lifestyle

How It Will Better Our Company  Our company will be in more demand than the average gym  Our gym will show more benefits through its higher technology level  It will increase membership sales  It will increase personal training session sales  Our company cares more about the health status and health progression of our members  We provide more than a scale and exercise equipment  Less risk of having unhealthy members work out unsupervised  Provides motivation which will increase membership frequency  You can’t put a price on life longevity

What Is Your Feedback?
