Chapter 2

LEARNING OUTCOMES This Chapter will partially cover the learning outcome No. 1 i.e. Design color slides combining graphics, text, and sound which effectively communicate the presentation objectives. (L01) 2

CONTENTS 3 Slide StructureFontsBackgroundColorOutlinesGraphsSpelling and GrammarConclusionsQuestions

OUTLINE Always make an outline of your presentation Must follow that outline in whole presentation Never use text massively in an outline Try and put some suitable pictures to start with Try and gain the interest of the audience in contents Use titles of each slide as outline 4

EFFECTIVE SLIDE STRUCTURE Do not put details about the topic Include 6 to 7 points per slide depending on the slide behavior Try and make abbreviations 5

A Dull Slide Structure This slide is basically describes about a dull slide structure as you can see it very clearly that this is text is not written in a bullet format that’s why it’s very difficult to read as as the audience will keep looking at the slide instead of listening you so try and avoid such kind of massive text in a slide because it will destroy your repute in front of all in comparison to the last slide this slide is creating a very bad and tense impression on the viewers. 6

STRUCTURE OF SLIDE There may not be lot’s of points in a slide 7 Try to use animations in each point Use sub bullets in case to define a topic in more detail This will prevent the audience to not read ahead Will definitely help you to keep the audience interest Always write less and speak more

A BAD STRUCTURE Always make an outline of your presentation Must follow that outline in whole presentation Never use text massively in an outline Try and put some suitable pictures to start with Try and gain the interest of the audience in contents Use titles of each slide as outline Always make an outline of your presentation Must follow that outline in whole presentation Never use text massively in an outline Try and put some suitable pictures to start with Try and gain the interest of the audience in contents Use titles of each slide as outline 8 Do not use distracting animation Do not go overboard with the animation Be consistent with the animation that you use Never use too much animations

Select Good Fonts Use at least an 18-point font Make variations in font sized for main points & secondary points As this font size is 20-point & the main point font size is 26-point and the slide title font size is 42-point Use standard fonts like Times new Roman, Arial etc. Use good colors which remain easy to view Do not write in capital words 9

BAD FONTS EXAMPLE This is the bad use of font size USE CAPITAL WORDS WHEN ITS NECESSARY…. BECAUSE IT’S DIFFICULT TO READ. Never use such font which is difficult to read Do not use such color which merges with the slide color Trying to be creative can also be bad 10

BACKGROUND SELECTION Use backgrounds such as this one that are attractive but simple. Use backgrounds which are light or In contrast with text written on to it. Use the same background consistently throughout your presentation. 11

Background – Bad Avoid backgrounds that are distracting or difficult to read from Always be consistent with the background that you use 12

Include Graphs Use graphs rather than just charts and words Data in graphs is easier to comprehend & retain than is raw data Trends are easier to visualize in graph form Always title your graphs 13

BAD GRAPHS 14

Bad Graph Mistakes Minor gridlines are unnecessary Font is too small Colors are illogical Title is missing Shading is distracting 15

GOOD GRAPHS 16

GRAMMER & SPELL CHECK Proof your slides for: speling mistakes the use of of repeated words grammatical errors you might have made If English is not your first language, please have someone else to check your presentation! 17

CONCLUSION Your closing should be very effective & strong Your audience might have a deep impact of your last words on their minds Use a conclusion slide Summarize the main points of your presentation Suggest future avenues of the research 18

THAT'S MY CONCLUSION How we Outline our contents How we make Slide Structure Use Appropriate Fonts Contrast Color combinations Use light Background Graphs Should be clear to audience better to use bars Spelling and Grammar should be there Conclusions as I am making of my whole lecture Questions…… as I request you to ask 19
