2 The human adult body has 206 bones. The human baby when born has between 300 and 350 bones.

3 1. The smallest bone in the human body is the stapes or stirrup bone located in the middle ear. It is 2.8mm in length. 2. Human thigh bones are stronger than concrete, the Femur bone as it’s called – the biggest and strongest bone in our body. It is easily capable of lifting or supporting 30 times its own volume and weight or up to 2 African elephants. 3. There are about 206 bones in a grown-up’s body. But more than half of them are located just in our hands and feet!

4 4. Apart from having more bones, another interesting baby fact is that they don’t have kneecaps! 5.. There are around 14 bones are in the face, 8 bones are in each wrist, 27 bones in each hand, 23 bones are in each foot including the ankle and 30 bones in the skull. 6. Bones consist of 50% water and 50% solid matter. 7. Adult human bones account for 14% of the body’s total weight.

5 The skeleton has 4 major functions. 1.It supports the organs and muscles of the body. 2.It provides protection for internal organs.

6 3. It provides a base for muscles to attach and allows movement. 4. The bones are where red and white blood cells are made and storage of minerals.

9 The skeleton is divided up into 2 main groups. The axial skeleton and appendicular skeleton.

10 The axial skeleton consists of. The skull The spine The ribs and sternum

11 The Appendicular Skeleton consists of The shoulder, arm and hand (shoulder girdle). The pelvis, leg and foot.

12 The spines purpose is protection, movement and support. It consists of the Cervical vertebrae Thoracic vertebrae Lumbar vertebrae Sacrum Coccyx
