2. Introduction Google Chrome OS is an open source PC operating system which is based on Linux. The operating system is a lightweight OS and was designed to be fast from start up, to browsing the web and accessing apps to logging off and shutting down.

4. PC Hardware Google Chromes OS hardware incorporates x86 or ARM-based processor. Chrome OS supports hard disk drives. Does not require high powered system to run Chrome OS. Its hardware partners use solid-state drives for performance and reliability reasons.

5. Installation Steps 1. Navigate to the Vanilla Chromium Build homepage and scroll all the way to the top of the version listing. 2. Click on the “Download USB Image” and the zipped OS image file should begin downloading. 3. Once the image has completed downloading, we will also need to download the Windows Image Writer so that we can successfully create a bootable image on our flash drive. The Image Writer page can be found here.here 4. Simply insert the drive into a USB slot in your computer and wait for Windows to mount the drive. Then navigate to “Computer”, right click on the flash drive in the device list and select “format”. The format menu will open, just click the “Start” button and Windows will automatically format your flash drive.

6. 5. Unzip the Image Writer file and open the Win32DiskImager program. 6. Unzip the Chrome OS.tar.gz image file you downloaded by using WinRAR. 7. In the Image Writer menu select the correct drive letter of your inserted flash drive. Once the correct drive is selected, you must then select the blue folder icon and navigate to the Google Chrome OS image file in the browser window that pops up. 8. Double check the drive letter of your flash drive and then select “Write”. A warning will pop up indicating your drive may malfunction if you happen to select the wrong one, dismiss the warning message and the program should begin writing a bootable image to your flash drive.

7. 9. When the program has finished writing the image and displays “Done” in the bottom left corner you may then remove the flash drive and close the program. 10. Reboot the machine and choose the USB thumb drive you just created as the boot partition. The computer will then boot into the Google Chrome OS Flow build. 11. The first time you login into the OS you will need to login using the following : Login- facepunch Password- facepunch. The Login screen looks like the image at the top left, with the Google Chrome and Flow logos clearly evidence. 12. Installation complete.

9. Apps Chosen and Why: Quick Note Quick note is the quickest way to take notes in chrome. It is especially designed for light weight note- taking. You can use it as a simple notepad, scratch pad, clipboard or to record to-do lists.

11. Google Dictionary Look up any word and simply click without leaving the page. This allows you to quickly look up definitions of words and phrases.

12. PC Performance Under Chrome OS The Google Chrome OS: Takes less then 10 seconds to boot up. Can be awoken from standby mode in under 5 seconds. Data is stored in the cloud-based online system. Was programmed to be very fast and efficient in accessing the internet and other web services and applications.

13. Summary All in all, it is debatable whether or not The Google Chrome Operating System can succeed. It is every convenient and a good and easy way to browse online. But, it has it limitations because of its software requirements.

14. Recommendations I highly recommend Tiwi Island College to use The Google Chrome Operating System as it is very user friendly for inexperienced users. Normal day to day class activities and tasks will be very easily completed using the OS. Chrome OS uses little power to run and its the most efficient.
