What is WBL? Work Based Learning Partnership involving the school, employer, student, instructor, and parent Aligns in-school instruction with on-the-job training Opportunity to earn high school electivecredit while learning and earning on the job Planned and supervised by the Work-Based Learning Instructional Leader according to a signed Training Plan and Agreement

Work-BasedLearning – 4 types of students Work-Based Learning – 4 types of students ESD (Employability Skills Development) Has completed at least one CTAE course or is currently enrolled in a CTAE course Has an entry- level paying job Job doesn’t necessarily “match” coursework Limited to 25% of caseload

Work-BasedLearning – 4 types of students Work-Based Learning – 4 types of students Cooperative Education Is currently enrolled in a CTAE course Has a paying job Job responsibilities are an application of what is being learned in a CTAE class in which they are enrolled

Work-BasedLearning – 4 types of students Work-Based Learning – 4 types of students Internship Student has completed at least one CTAE course Has a paid or non-paid position Job responsibilities must match course work If no CTAE course is offered at school, WBL Ieader can choose to “link” student to completed academic work

Work-BasedLearning – 4 types of students Work-Based Learning – 4 types of students Youth Apprenticeship Has completed at least one CTAE course (has received 144 hours of instruction) Is committed to accumulating 2000 hours of on-the- job training (continued tracking after graduation) Has a highly skilled job with a progressive pay scale Is committed to pursuing post-secondary training All three pieces are related to the same career pathway (coursework/job/post-secondary)

Work-Based Learning Facilitators are responsible for… Scheduling guest speakers for classrooms Providing bulletins, trade magazines, presentations or other appropriate resources Assisting with coaching CTSOs Conducting presentations or lessons on career awareness or career exploration Presenting lessons on work-related issues Arranging field trips

Work-Based Learning Facilitators are responsible for… Conferencing with students regarding career plans Working with counselors to identify appropriate students for placement in WBL Coordinating Career Expo, Taste of Technical, Mock Interviews, mini-workshops, job shadowing, PROBE fairs, and/or other school-wide opportunities Ensuring articulation agreements are in place Assisting CTI coordinator with WBL

Work-Based Learning Facilitators are responsible for… Serving as liaison between school, middle school, industry, and post-secondary Presenting career awareness and career exploration lessons at middle schools Visiting new employers and cultivating new training opportunities Coordinating advisory committee Building strong public relations connections through media exposure

And in our spare time… Visit current students on job sites Assess students for course credit Insure that students are placed on jobs that comply with state and federal regulations Maintain student records and files Prepare and submit all state reports Plan and conduct meetings to teach employability skills Assist students in creating WBL portfolio Confer with parents and/or instructional teachers concerning student progress
