Flexible mathematics content preparation Primož Lukšič, Matija Lokar UL, Fakulteta za matematiko in fiziko, Ljubljana, Slovenia CADGME’10

Aims of the workshop To present a web application for creating, managing and serving e-learning content To show flexible (mathematical) content creation To discuss the reasons we created such a tool To get your feedback … please CADGME’10, Primož Lukšič 2

Questions Why another tool … there are already so many tools, applications, repositories available? Are you from Slovakia? No, Slovenia About you? About NAUK? CADGME’10, Primož Lukšič 3

Reasons Why create another tool? All-in-one sollution (content creation, editing, repository, community) Be free of restrictions price, linear learning paths, fixed number of elements, outdated/hard to change technologies, long revision process, confusing repositories, coding experience author student relationship Where is the teacher? CADGME’10, Primož Lukšič 4

How can I use it? Test application is available at http://test.nauk.si?lang=en But, before we try it – what is it capable of? general content creation projects intro page content sharing content copying content inclusion (GeoGebra, Wink, audio&video) content searching CADGME’10, Primož Lukšič 5

Use in mathematics Support for Latex Questions with random parameters Random question selection Selection of questions depending on previous answers CADGME’10, Primož Lukšič 6

How can you provide all that? We separate the content from the appearance No WYSISYG then? Well, not yet … But if you can learn to use the Wikipedia, you wil know how to use NAUK How do you then present the content? page is represented as a slide you can have sections (lef, right, middle) and “popup” windows CADGME’10, Primož Lukšič 7

Advantages You always have your source materials and can use them elsewhere You do not need to know HTML, SCORM, etc. You do not need to adapt the content when the technologies change Yes, there are also disadvantages: you have to learn some syntax or at least which button to press CADGME’10, Primož Lukšič 8

What content can I create? Text, pictures, galeries, audio, video subject specific imports GeoGebra-math Vernier-physics Wink-comp, Sudoku, Kakuro, Latin squares, Logical tables-logic nonlinear learning paths CADGME’10, Primož Lukšič 9

What about quizzes? Questions types: singlechoice, multichoice, matching, numerical, string, text Advanced checking of answers more questions partial corectness logical statments (and, or) complex feedbacks (popup) CADGME’10, Primož Lukšič 10

Advanced feedbacks Answer checking: label (percentage, answer) label.index (chosen answer) label.content (content of chosen answers) label.correct (num. of correct answers) label+- x (tolerance) page_label.count (num. of page visits) CADGME’10, Primož Lukšič 11

Variables Possibilities: [@ a = 5 b = a - 2 @] [@ a = randint(-10, 10) @] [@ a= if b=c then b else d @] CADGME’10, Primož Lukšič 12
