Geometry Badran Awadeh

Content Area: Math Grade Level: 3 rd Summary: The purpose of this instructional PowerPoint is to give the students the ability to understand shapes in different categories Learning Objective: Given a shape, the students will correctly recognize and name each shape. Content Standard: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.G.A.1 Understand that shapes in different categories (e.g., rhombuses, rectangles, and others) may share attributes (e.g., having four sides), and that the shared attributes can define a larger category (e.g., quadrilaterals). Recognize rhombuses, rectangles, and squares as examples of quadrilaterals, and draw examples of quadrilaterals that do not belong to any of these subcategories. Accomplishment: Students will be able to differentiate and recall the names of the shapes

POLYGONs Polygons must have at least 3 sides

Triangles Triangles have exactly 3 sides

Quadrilaterals Quadrilaterals have exactly 4 sides

Quadrilaterals Parallelogram A quadrilateral with opposite sides parallel. Rectangle A quadrilateral with four 90-degree angles. Square A quadrilateral with four equal sides and four 90 degree angles. Trapezoid A quadrilateral that has exactly two sides parallel. Rhombus A parallelogram with four equal sides.

PentagonsHexagons Pentagons have exactly 5 sidesHexagons have exactly 6 sides

HeptagonsOctagons Heptagons have exactly 7 sidesOctagons have exactly 8 sides

Shapes in the Environment

What shape do you see? Pentagon Rectangle Kite Square

What shape do you see? Pentagon Rectangle Square Hexagon

What shape do you see? Pentagon Kite Square Octagon

What shape do you see? Pentagon Rectangle Kite Triangle

What shape do you see? Pentagon Rectangle Kite Square

WHAT DID WE LEARN? Today, we are able to differentiate and recall the names of the shapes. We know all the shapes that range from 3 sides to 8 sides. END SLIDESHOW
