3 Program Goals  Improve your science content knowledge  Help you integrate technology into your lessons  Gain new inquiry-based lessons that will motivate your students to learn  Improve your high school students understanding of science

4 Professional Development  2-week Summer Workshop (July 23-August 3) Morning inquiry pedagogy component  Teachers participate in inquiry/technology lessons as “students” Afternoon content component  Concentrated content training through participation in inquiry activities and content discussions in content teams (USC science and education faculty and ~6 teachers)

5 Format of Professional Development  Practice Teaching with high school students Practice Teaching with high school students Practice new methods in a stress free environment before enacting them in their classroom  Reflection Analysis of videotaped instruction during the workshop Strengths, missed opportunities, and student learning issues

6 Academic Year Support  9 monthly workshops Saturdays (9am to 12pm) starting in August Workshop Events  Teachers participate in additional inquiry/technology model lessons  Work with USC science faculty in new content groups to develop additional content knowledge  Develop a second inquiry/technology lesson to enact in classroom  Eligible for USC graduate science credit through course SMED 729  In-classroom coaching

7 What’s in it for you???  Improved teaching and increased student knowledge!!!  Money ($1000 + mileage, more $$ for enactment of lessons and academic year workshops)  Possibility for 3 graduate level science credits
