2 CAPITAL Cardiff is the capital of Wales and its largest city. It is situated in the highly urbanised area of South East Wales. Wales' second-largest city is Swansea. Motto AND ANTHEM Welsh motto is "Cymru am byth", which means "Wales for ever ". the anthem is “Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau” (“Land of My Fathers”) Flag of Wales: The flag of Wales consists of a red dragon passant on a green and white field. The flag of Saint David is one of other unofficial flags of Wales.

3 GEOGRAPHY Wales is part of the United Kingdom. It’s generally a mountainous country. It is situated on the western side of central southern Great Britain. It is bordered by England to its east and the Atlantic Ocean, St George's Channel and The Irish Sea to its west.

4 CLIMATE On average, Wales is cloudier than England, because of the hilly nature of the terrain and the proximity to the Atlantic. The highest maximum temperature is 34.2 °C and the lowest minimum was −23.3 °C. POPULACE Populace in Wales amounts to 3,063,456 people, the highest in its history. LANGUAGES Wales is a country with two languages: Welsh and English. Welsh is spoken by around 20% of the population. RELIGION: The largest religion in Wales is Christianity.

5 CULTURE Wales' culture is very diverse. All branches of the arts are well represented in Wales in both languages. TITBIT OF NEWS Rugby is Welsh national game. It’s the most avidly followed, particularly in South Wales. The Welsh-language programme Pobol Y Cwm is the UK's longest running BBC television soap. Wales is a popular location for filming. This landscape has provided the setting to Hollywood movies such as Harry Potter and popular television shows including Dr Who.

6 FAMOUS WELSH PEOPLE Sir Anthony Hopkins: Welsh actor of film, stage, and television Richard Burton: Welsh stage and cinema actor David Lloyd George: A Liberal who served in Parliament for 50 years and as Britain's Prime Minister from 1916-1922. Charlotte Church: Welsh singer-songwriter, actress and television presenter. Thomas Woodward: known by his stage name Tom Jones, is a Welsh singer. Richard Llewellyn: The University of Texas at Austin holds 14 boxes of papers pertaining to Welsh novelist Richard Llewellyn, best known for How Green Was My Valley.

7 SNOWDONIA NATIONAL PARK Snowdonia is a champion among parks. Over 800 square miles in extent, the tallest peak in Wales, it has been protected since 1951. That makes it the largest, highest and oldest Welsh National Park. 36,400 hectares of the Snowdonia National Park is covered by woodlands.
