3 The mole allows the conversion between mass and number of particles. In one mole there is 6.02 x 10 23 particles.

5 Avogardo (1776-1856) Avogadro’s Hypothesis - any sample of any gas at the same temperature and pressure will contain the same number of particles.

6 Chemists use a standard temperature and pressure, STP, to measure gas volumes. 0°C and 101.3 kPa At STP: The volume of 1 mole of ANY GAS is 22.4 L. 22.4 L/mol is known as molar volume. The MASS of 22.4 L of any gas is equal to the molar mass for that gas.
