1 AGC Update November 2012

2 Wyoming Public Schools’ Middle College is a collaboration between Wyoming Public Schools and Grand Rapids Community College as a school- within-a-school five year, “hybrid” model (vs. separate entity school) Wyoming Middle College is recognized by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) and the United States Department of Education (USDOE) as a four-plus-one program.

3  All college courses are GRCC college courses: Same curriculum, same assessments, same textbooks, same assignments, same grading  All college courses are taught by GRCC faculty and/or adjunct faculty  All college courses are governed by GRCC academic calendar  All students are under both Wyoming HS student code of conduct and GRCC student code of conduct  All FERPA guidelines apply

4 Students demonstrate academic preparedness and college readiness through a rigorous application process which includes:  Statement of Confirmation (Student & Parent)  Student Questionnaire  High School Assessments (at grade level or higher)  Discipline and Attendance Records  School Personnel Recommendation (from two different staff)  GPA : 2.5 or greater  ACCUPLACER Reading Score: 70 or greater (Score range 70 – 115) Students take ACCUPLACER WriterPlacer and Math, as well. The college will not deliver any developmental education courses for any high school student.

6 9 th Grade: College Prep/Michigan Merit Curriculum 10th Grade: 5 Hours MMC/and 2 College Courses (one per semester) 11th Grade: 4 Hours MMC/and 4 College Courses (two per semester) 12th Grade: 3 Hours MMC/and 6 College Courses (three per semester) 13th Grade 1 Hour MMC/and 8 – 10 College Courses General Curriculum Layout

7 It is the intent of both Wyoming Public School administration and GRCC administration to move this program from a school-within-a- school to a separate facility in its third year offering the Middle College, dual enrollment, and general public educational opportunities. A second cohort of students will begin in Fall 2013 and a third cohort of students in Fall 2014. Operational Plan
