What is it all about? * Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday that is set aside to remember those family and friends that have past.

Traditional Items El pan de muerto: Day of the Dead bread Sugar skulls Mole: spicy chocolate sauce Costumes Candles: light the path for the soul Flower petals: Show the soul where to find their place Frutas: Fruit Incense Skeletons

How do they prepare for this holiday? Families spend hours cleaning and decorating the grave. At the grave site, they create an altar filled with candles, flowers, pictures, music, etc. to remember the one who passed.

Belief The people who celebrate this holiday believe that the soul of the person their honoring comes back that night. That soul is with them the whole night, eating the food, listening to music, etc.

What happens at Day of the Dead? Families hang out at the grave, eating and drinking traditional food and drink. You might see families playing cards at the grave, if that is what the passed loved one liked to do.

Altars Families can also create an altar inside their home that is decorated with the same items that you would see at a grave.
