6 Example 2 – word problem A spider has eight legs. An ant has 3⁄4 as many legs as a spider. How many legs does an ant have? Solution: 3⁄4 of 8 means 3⁄4 × 8 3⁄4 × 8⁄1 = 24⁄4 – reduce = 6 An ant has 6 legs
