14. Petroleum Spills If spill is less than 25 gallons and cannot be properly cleaned up within 24 hours, the discharge must be reported Any spill of 25 gallons or greater. National Response Center: EPA 40 CFR Section 110.10 Requires the person in charge of a facility or vessel to report any harmful discharge of oil to the Federal government's National Response Center or other available authority. Section 302 requires notification to the National Response Center (NRC) for any release of a CERCLA 102(a) listed “hazardous substance” in a quantity at or above the chemical’s reportable quantity (RQ) for any 24-hour period. RQ limits (40 CFR 302.4) are set by EPA based on the chemical properties
