10 PMA CME CODE CHAPTER II THE PMA COMMISSION ON CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION  Section 6:Organization  Policy-making, planning and administration of the CME program of the PMA  Six members appointed by the President with concurrence of the Board of Governors  Term of office: 3 years  Referred to as the CME Commission and its members as Commissioners THE PMA COMMISSION ON CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION

11 PMA CME CODE CHAPTER II THE PMA COMMISSION ON CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION  Section 7:Functions and Duties  Promulgate, enforce and implement the PMA CME Code and rules, regulations and guidelines;  Receive, investigate and mediate complaints regarding CME units within the PMA area of responsibility;  Monitor and maintain an adequate record of the CME units earned by the members of the Association; THE PMA COMMISSION ON CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION

22 PMA CME CODE GENERAL RULES FOR CME UNITS ACCREDITATION Residents under training 50 units/year Speaker (30 min – 1 hour) 10 units/ SESSION Discussant, reactor, panelist or moderator 10 units/SESSION Postgraduate/ masteral/ DOCTORATE 100 units/year Professor (full) Medical school faculty other than professor 100 units/year 80 units/year

23 PMA CME CODE Required CME Units to Maintain Good Standing Memorandum Circular No. 03-004Memorandum Circular No. 03-004 (As per Board Resolution dated December 8, 2002) (As per Board Resolution dated December 8, 2002) To maintain a membership of good standing in the PMA, a member must earn within the fiscal year at least 100 CME Units broken down as follows: - 70 CME Units accredited by the National PMA Office through its CME Commission -PMA Annual Convention -PMA Regional Assemblies -Conventions, seminars, scientific meetings of Commission recognized Specialty Societies PMA CME UNITS REQUIREMENT FOR MEMBERSHIP IN GOOD STANDING

24 PMA CME CODE Required CME Units to Maintain Good Standing - 30 CME Units DULY CERTIFIED to the PMA National Office by thelocal component society (without prejudice to the arrangements between the local component societies and local chapters of specialty societies for joint scientific meetings or similar activities for purposes of CME accreditation by the local component society). PMA CME UNITS REQUIREMENT FOR MEMBERSHIP IN GOOD STANDING

25 PMA CME CODE Required CME Units to Maintain Good Standing  CME Requirements: Rural Physicians  Group A - Area of practice >50 km. but not >100 km. from Component Society Secretariat, general hospital or medical school  120 CME units within a 3-year period  Group B – Area of practice >100 km. from Component Secretariat, general hospital or medical school  60 CME units within a 3-year period  Register with Secretariat of Component Society PMA CME UNITS REQUIREMENT FOR MEMBERSHIP IN GOOD STANDING

26 PMA CME CODE Required CME Units to Maintain Good Standing  CME Requirements: Rural Physicians  For purposes of PMA membership in good standing:  GROUP A rural physicians are required to earn a minimum of 40 CME units within a one year period  GROUP B rural physicians 20 CME units within a one year period. PMA CME UNITS REQUIREMENT FOR MEMBERSHIP IN GOOD STANDING

27 PMA CME CODE ‘Recognizing that medicine is a changing science, the physician has the obligation to update his knowledge and practice so that he can provide medical service and care current to the times and consonant with the type of practice he has and the community he serves.’ Code of Ethics of the Medical Profession
