2. What is the River Congo? The River Congo, also known as Zaire, is located in Africa-Congo and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It flows through some of the cities such as: Novosbirsk, Barnaul, Mogochin and Akaderngorodok. It’s mouth is the Atlantic ocean and it sources are : Lake Mweru and Lake Tanganyika. The River Congo serves the second largest rainforest in the world! Fun Fact:

5. Journey of a River… From the source, for this river the sources are: Lake Mweru and Lake Tanganyika, the stream travels through rapids and meets the other streams- this is called a tributary. Following this, rain falls onto the mountains and forms hundreds of tributaries- these join together and form a river. Next the river joins the rapids, the water is fast-flowing and extremely dangerous. It rushes through canyons, past cliffs and swirls over hard rocks.

6. Journey of a river… The river flows out of the rapids and along into the valley. In the valley, the water is a lot wider ready to travel into the middle course. Once it has begun to form into the middle course, the current slows down, however, it is still powerful. Instead of the water cutting downwards, it cuts sideways into the bank. This makes the river twist from side-to-side in huge bends called meanders.

7. Journey of a River… Further down the valley, the land is even flatter. At some parts there is no real banks at all! The flat land beside the river is called the flood-plain. The flood plain is known to flood easily due to it’s banks breaking.
