1 Get a sheet at your table. Objective: You will define and apply various lettering styles in order to create a more challenging type set. We will use these techniques to draw the cover of the Art Element Book. **TRY TO ANSWER QUESTION no 2.**

2 Simply put typography is the art of print. ~ Lettering styles/ fonts Typography refers to the arrangement of text on a page, and appears in some form or another in all instances of written communication. Quality typography can make a big difference in communications, because it can impact the way the reader sees and feels about the topic being discussed.

6 What is the difference between these 3 letters? A A A Sans Serif- French word sans means WITHOUT a serif. a bcd Serif- Is a detail at the beginning or end of a letter. abcd Script- Text that is written in cursive. abcd

9 Assessment ~ One letter in 4 styles. 4 volunteers to draw on the board. Describe each style- –Sans serif –Serif –Script

10 Typography on your Book Cover Objective: You will apply your knowledge of typography in order to draw the title on your book cover. DRILL: Take out the TYPOGRAPHY sheet from yesterday. 1.Draw the letters in row 5 using a font from the packet. Touch all the edges. 2.Use 4 new fonts of your choice on the back for one letter.

12 ART ELEMENTS book cover 1.Get a rectangle to trace from folder. 2.Elements- 8 letters to fit, measure then trace. 3.Of- 2 LETTERS 4.Art- 3 LETTERS 5.After you trace your rectangles, find a lettering style to draw. 6.Try to touch all 4 sides of rectangle. 7.Add designs, be creative, paint background.

13 SCRATCH ART In groups of 8 you will come back for a demo. BRING YOUR ART ELEMENT BOOK. Turn to page 2 for the line artwork. MISS GAUGER WILL SHOW WHAT TO DO.
