Introduction- what is Ethernet

 Unitronics’ Vision V130/230/260/280/350/570 support Ethernet – Add on module.  The Ethernet Card offers 4 sockets and works with both TCP/IP and UDP/IP.  The Ethernet card can work with speeds of either 10 or 100Mbps.  The PLC supports the MODBUS over TCP protocol and uses this as the connection to SCADA systems and among PLCs. Unitronics Ethernet

What are we going to review ?  Knowing the Ethernet Communication  introducing the Ethernet toolbar options  Working on the net with Ethernet  Programming/Building Ethernet on the net

The Ethernet Communication

About Networks Generally, controllers are part of a closed, internal control network. A closed network may be referred to as a LAN (Local Area Network) or an Intranet. When Intranets are connected via gateway devices, they form a WAN (Wide Area Network). The Internet, which is made up of connected Intranets or LANs, is a form of WAN. Internet communications are via the TCP/IP protocol. Within closed controller networks, Ethernet is becoming a common protocol. Ethernet communications are also via the TCP/IP protocol. For more information about TCP/IP see on the document that is attached

The Ethernet toolbar options

TCP\IP: Card Init This function is located on the Com>TCP/IP menu. If you assign an IP address indirectly, via an MI vector, note that the vector is 4 MIs long. The low byte of each MI provides the number for an octet within the IP address. For more information about TCP/IP see on the document that is attached Click to assign an IP address The IP address may be typed in directly, or be provided by a vector of MIs.

Set PLC Name this Function enables you to assign a unique name to a PLC. This name can, for example, be used to identify the PLC for Ethernet networking purposes. The PLC name should be assigned as a power-up task. This function is located on the Com>TCP/IP menu.

TCP\IP: Socket Init Vision controllers currently offer 4 sockets. Sockets may be configured to TCP, UDP, UDP RAW, or HTTP. The default configuration means that, for most applications, you do not need to include a Socket Init FB in the ladder application. For more information about Socket see on the document that is attached This function is located on the Com>TCP/IP menu.

TCP\IP: Connect \ Close TCP applications require you to use a TCP: Connect FB to establish the Ethernet connection after the Ethernet card is initialized and before activating any of the MODBUS IP commands. To terminate the session, use the TCP: Close FB. This function is located on the Com>TCP/IP menu.

TCP\IP: Connect \ Close This function is located on the Com>TCP/IP menu. The TCP Connect function dedicates a socket to communicate with the device whose IP is specified in the function, causing it to ignore communication attempts from other devices.

Work on the net with Ethernet

Configuring a MODBUS slave device  The Ladder section below shows what elements are necessary to enable a master device to read from a slave.  The MODBUS Scan operation should not be performed during the initial program scan.  You must use a condition (RLO) to activate the MODBUS Configuration.

Configuring a MODBUS slave device  Step 1: Initializing the Ethernet card and configuring MODBUS  Note that all slave devices must be assigned ID number 255. Step 2: Scan  To enable the master PLC to access the slave, include a MODBUS Scan FB in the slave's application.

Configuring a MODBUS master device  This sample application shows you how to use Ethernet to communicate PLC to PLC:  Enable a master PLC to read an MI value from a Slave Device  Write an MI value to a Slave Device.  The values are shown on the Start-Up Display, together with other general Ethernet values.  The application communicates via Socket 3, which is configured by the default socket configuration to use the TCP protocol. In order to be able to communicate via Ethernet, a controller must have an Ethernet port.

TCP/IP Master The nets below show the elements that are required by a Master PLC. The master application requires Socket Init and a TCP/IP Connect function, and that when you wish to terminate a session, you must include a Close Socket function.

TCP/IP Slave The nets below show the basic conditions enabling a TCP/ IP Slave to receive messages.

Modbus Modbus is a serial communications protocol published by Modicom in 1979 for use with its programmable logic controllers (PLCs). The main reasons for the extensive use of Modbus over other communications protocols are:  It is openly published and royalty-free  Relatively easy industrial network to deploy  It moves raw bits or words without placing many restrictions on Modbus is often used to connect a supervisory computer with a remote terminal unit (RTU) in supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems. vendors

Modbus Ip (Ethernet) MODBUS enables you to establish master-slave communications between Unitronics PLCs and any connected device that supports the MODBUS protocol. Any controller in the network may function as either master or slave using any of the controller's existing COM Ports. The MODBUS-IP functions enable Vision controllers that contain Ethernet ports to communicate with any external device that can establish communications via the Ethernet.

Scada SCADA is the abbreviation for Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition. It generally refers to an industrial control system: a computer system monitoring and controlling a process. The process can be industrial. מקור

Protocol TCP/IP FB Use the Communication Protocol TCP/IP operations located on the FBs menu to enable your controller to exchange data with TCP/IP-enabled devices, such as frequency converters, bar-code readers, and printers. The controller must comprise an Ethernet card. Communication Protocol TCP/IP operations are located on the FBs menu.

Slave Addressing Monochrome / Color PLCs The memory structure of monochrome screen PLCs is different from that of color screen PLCs. This is why each series has its own slave addressing scheme. The slave addresses given for the monochrome series are decimal values. The slave addresses given for the color series are hexadecimal values.

Programming Ethernet

Send E-Mail This Function enables a controller to send an E-mail in response to Ladder conditions. In order to send email, the controller must comprise a TCP/IP port, and must be connected to an Ethernet network with access to a mail server. This function is located on the Com>TCP/IP menu.

Web Server Enhanced Vision controllers can host web pages. The controller must comprise a TCP/IP port, and must be connected to an Ethernet network. If the controller contains web pages, a remote user can enter the IP address of the controller into a web browser and view the pages.
