2 What is it? Most people mistake it for just knowing two languages, such as in high school when your required to take a language course Bilingual education is the use of instruction in the classroom in two languages, the child’s native language and english.

3 Did you know that in the state of Arizona it is illegal for teachers to instruct their class in Spanish?

4 Arizona’s Prop 203 For English Language Learners Was approved in the November 7, 2000 Election English Language Learner (ELL) are children who do not know or speak our native language; English. In Arizona, all classrooms in the public school system must be taught in English Children who are classified as an English Language Learner must go through an Immersion program to learn english, normally only within a year and not more.

7 Statistics In the 200-210 school year, 4.7 million students were classified as English Language learners In 2011, there were 4.4 million students. Hawaii has the most increase in Ell’s. In Arizona, it has decreased 8.4 percentage points, but still is in the high percentage group.
