3 Online Employee Orientation
This online presentation is designed for part-time workers and student workers benefits-eligible employees who do not work on campus or who are out of state (virtual) employees who want to review the orientation material as a refresher New benefits-eligible staff and faculty are urged to attend an instructor-led session of New Employee Orientation within two weeks of their hire date. Anyone who wants to learn more about ASU can benefit from this online presentation. But it is designed for part-time workers and student workers, benefits-eligible employees who do not work on campus or who are out of state, and employees who want to review the orientation materials as a refresher. New benefits-eligible staff and faculty are strongly encouraged to attend an instructor-led session of New Employee Orientation within two weeks of their hire date. In the face-to-face presentation, employees receive a more in-depth overview of the university and their benefits options and have the opportunity to receive immediate answers to their questions. The slides will advance automatically, except for slides 4 and 18, where the presentation will pause so that you can click the link to watch a video. Any time you want to pause during the presentation, click the pause button at the bottom of the screen. When you’re ready to proceed, click the arrow at the bottom of the screen. It will direct you to the forms you need to get paid and link you to the websites that tell you how to obtain your computer account, Sun Card, and parking permit. If you are benefits-eligible, follow the links to important information about your benefits and enrollment deadlines. This presentation will also direct you to training that is mandatory for all ASU employees and also tell you about perks and discounts.

Near the end of the video, did you hear what President Crow says ASU is committed to? Excellence Inclusiveness (Access) Impact These are 3 key words that define ASU’s mission. It’s difficult for universities to accomplish all three at the same time, but ASU is receiving national and international recognition maintaining our academic excellence while being inclusive in our student population and making a positive impact locally and globally.

7 University Leadership
This organizational chart shows the University’s Leadership. The Arizona Board of Regents is the governing body of Arizona's public university system, providing policy guidance to the three state universities. You can see ASU’s three top administrators. Our President is Dr. Michael Crow; our Executive Vice President and Provost of the University is Dr. Betty Capaldi; and our Executive Vice President, Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer is Dr. Morgan Olsen.

Arizona State University is “One University in Many Places.” ASU provides multiple pathways for students to engage in the intellectual, social and cultural communities that best suit them by offering four distinct physical campuses, an online campus and numerous educational partnerships with international institutions.

9 Fall 2011 University Enrollment
Total enrollment: 72,250 students 9,254 first-time freshmen 6,776 new transfer students 14,700 out-of-state and international undergraduate students 19% of students are graduate students Enrollment at all of our campuses has grown significantly. The unduplicated enrollment (Headcount Enrollment) for fall 2011 is 72,250. We have students from all 50 states, and from over 120 countries around the world.

For those of you who are math whizzes, you notice that these numbers add up to more than 72,000. That’s because some students are enrolled in classes on more than one campus. There are also over 3,000 students enrolled in academic programs offered through ASU Online.

12 ASU Students ASU students are actively engaged in learning and research, and we are here to help them succeed and graduate. Our President, Dr. Michael Crow, tells us that the number one focus for all faculty and staff is to help students succeed. So whenever you have an opportunity to assist a student, please do.

Like many universities, we have added new buildings, hired new faculty and brought in new students. But, unlike many of our peers, we have also undertaken a massive reorganization of our institution. We have torn down walls between disciplines and encouraged collaboration among diverse units. We have altered the trajectory of the university and reevaluated the role that universities play in society, in the economy and in education at all levels. We have changed the relationship between ASU and Arizona.

We have just completed a high-level overview of ASU and our vision and goals. Now we will turn to specific action items that new employees need to complete. A concise list of these items can be found on the New Employee web page.

23 Action Items: Payroll Submit the New Employee Payroll Packet to your campus contact or the Office of Human Resources and complete your I-9 verification no later than your first day of employment. 2012 payday calendar Questions about payroll issues? Contact ask HR Employee Services Faculty Services at Your first priority should be to complete and submit the New Employee Payroll Packet to Human Resources and complete your I-9 verification. You should do this before or on your first day of work. Submitting your payroll forms gets you into the system and gets you a paycheck! Reference the Payday Calendar to see when you will get paid.

24 Action Items: Computer Account
Activate your ASURITE UserID to obtain your ASU and computer accounts.   After you have activated your ASURITE UserID, you will be able to access My ASU, a portal into the secure ASU website. You will have access to the Employee Information section where you can check the status of your pay, your benefits, and your personal information. Questions about your computer account? Call the ASU Help Desk at After you are assigned your Employee ID number, you can log on to from an on-campus computer to activate your ASURITE UserID and password. Follow the instructions. The process takes minutes. Your ASURITE User ID and ASU Address will be listed on the Confirmation page. Write them down for future reference. If you need help, call the ASU Help Desk. After you have activated your ASURITE UserID, you will be able to access My ASU, a portal into the secure ASU website. You will have access to the Employee Information section where you can check the status of your pay, your benefits, and your personal information.

25 Action Items: ID Card & Parking
Obtain a Sun Card, the official photo ID for all ASU students, faculty and staff. Purchase a parking permit (if you drive to campus), or consider alternative Transit Options. To obtain your ASU Sun Card, go to the Sun Card Office on your campus. You must have your ASU ID number and show a photo ID. They will take your photo and produce the card for you. The Sun Card process takes 3-5 minutes. If you plan to drive to campus, you need to purchase an ASU parking permit. You can do this online. You must: Be entered into the payroll system Have a valid ASU ID number Present correct license plate information Have an acceptable form of payment. Parking rates and locations are listed online.

26 Action Items: Benefits
If you are benefits-eligible, submit the enrollment forms for health, life, disability, flexible spending accounts and mandatory retirement within 30 days of your hire date. Register for an instructor-led session of New Benefits- Eligible Employee Orientation to learn about your benefits options. Review the Benefits Orientation PowerPoint presentation. Questions about benefits? Contact ask HR Employee Services Faculty Services at If you are benefits-eligible, you are strongly encouraged to attend an instructor-led session of New Benefits-Eligible Employee Orientation to learn about your benefits options. If you cannot attend because you don’t work on campus, then review the benefits materials online and submit the enrollment forms for health, life, disability, flexible spending accounts and mandatory retirement within 30 days of your hire date.

To be in compliance with state and federal laws, all ASU faculty and staff, including part-time employees and student workers, MUST review the Arizona Public Service Policy attend instructor-led Fire Safety & Prevention training complete online ASU Information Security training To be in compliance with state and federal laws, all employees must review the Arizona Public Service Policy and also attend an instructor-led session of Fire Safety & Prevention Training and complete the online ASU Information Security Training. Arizona law requires that all state employees receive a public service orientation that covers policies and laws relating to the proper conduct of business for a public employee. All ASU employees are required to complete the information security training within 30 days of employment. This online, self-paced class shows you how to protect ASU data and information systems from harm. The course includes a presentation and a quiz, which may take 30 minutes to complete. You must answer 12 of 15 quiz questions correctly to earn credit for the course. You will need your ASURITE UserID to be able to log into My ASU to access the training.
