Planning a Wedding A Christian Guide

What comes after the engagement? Every engagement decision should be based on prayer. Trusting in the Holy Spirit’s guidance for decisions should be a priority for every Christian. After you have made a decision to get married, the first step to start planning the wedding is to set a date and time for the special occasion. (Remember to give you plenty of time to plan and prepare for the wedding.)

First steps for designing a plan: Set an appointment with your pastor or the officiating minister for pre-marital counseling. This is a fundamental step as it will help you discuss issues with your partner that otherwise might be ignored. It could help you notice great differences and similarities of thought, find ways to handle conflicts, and to establish better communication and understanding. “Counsel in the heart of man [is like] deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.” Proverbs 20:5

…designing a plan: Set a budget and be determined to stay with it. Some things to consider in your budget are: The wedding venue Food Wedding favors Rentals, such as: bridal car, equipment, etc. The entire wardrobe The honeymoon “Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.” Proverbs 24:3-4

…designing a plan: Choose the wedding and reception venues, and reserve them. Choose the wedding party. Decide on: Bridesmaids Maid or matron of honor Groomsmen Best man Flower girls Ring bearer Any other person that you would like to participate in the wedding

…designing a plan: Begin searching for the bridal gown. Finding the perfect dress takes time. The perfect dress is the one in which you feel special, pretty and comfortable.

…designing a plan: Start brainstorming about the wedding ceremony. Weddings are family events. The ceremony provides the opportunity to involve the parents, children or any other family members to share with you in one of the rituals. You can plan to include some worship songs and sermonette as part of the ceremony in which your church family, genealogical family, and friends can participate.

…designing a plan: Hire a photographer. The wedding day goes by very fast, the only way to keep the memories alive, are videos and photographs. If you are short on money, even a family member or friend with a camera can help take pictures and/or videotape the wedding ceremony and reception. * Involve your family as much as you can in helping with the wedding event. They love you and will give you unconditional help. The process can also help everyone in the transition of your soon new identity as a married member of the family.

If your budget allows, you can always hire a wedding planner who will help you with all the details, but the decisions will always be yours to make. Having a list of your desires and wants could be very helpful in the process.

Good planning is key for a successful wedding. May the Lord bless your marriage!
