2 Introduction Chinese Calligraphy is called 中國書法, or Shu Fa It is just like regular Chinese writing, but it is done beautifully and with ink and brush It is believed to have energy flowing through it

3 History 1550 B.C. The first calligraphy was written on animal bones 1030 B.C. Now it was written on bronze 48 B.C. Cursive script is invented 220 A.D Calligraphy is written on paper ???? Modern script is invented

4 Paper These are the special kinds of paper used by calligraphers Raw Xuan Shu Fa Semi- raw Xuan Sometimes, red paper is used for special occasions

5 Brushes You need a special brush to do calligraphy. Here are some kinds: Bamboo Orchid Bear hair Horse hair Goat beard

6 Ink There are also certain type of ink. Most ink comes in a sort of stick made of compacted ink powder. They usually have intricate patterns on them Some comes in a bottle, pre- made Some types of ink are: Pine ink Oil ink

7 Education Chinese Children are taught from a very young age how to do calligraphy They have a calligraphy class every week just like we have art or music Growing up to be a calligrapher is a well respected, professional job, like a lawyer
