7.1 The Meanings of Ratio, Rate, and ProportionChelsea Ogilvie & Ashley Regan
Ratio Ratio: A specific type of relationship between two quantities.Example: The ratio of flour to milk for a muffin recipe is 6 to 2. For every 6 cups of flour, there are 2 cups of milk
Ratio Practice The flour to milk ratio for the muffins was 6:2, so if we only had 3 cups of flour, how much milk would we need? One cup of milk
Rate Rate: The ratio between two quantities that are measured in different units. Example: Speed is calculated as a rate because it is the ratio of distance traveled to elapsed time.
Rate Practice John is driving at a constant speed of 10 miles every 12 minutes. Draw a double number line and use it to show at least 3 other equivalent rates.
Proportion Proportion: The statement that two ratios are equivalent.Example: The equation 7:2 = 14:4 is a proportion.
Proportion Practice Give an example of a proportion of 5:3. 10:6 15:920:12 25:15
Direct Variation and Proportion
Lesson 5-5 Direct Variation
3.8 Direct, Inverse and Joint Variation
UNIT TEST ON PROPORTIONAL REASONING
Understanding Unit Rates
C HAPTER 4 EQ: How do I determine a proportional relationship?
Chelsea Ogilvie & Ashley Regan. Method 1: Finding the Amount in One Part Example: At a perfume factory, the workers want to mix rose oil and lily oil.
Identifying and Representing Proportional Relationships
Learn to recognize direct variation by graphing tables of data and checking for constant ratios.
SOLVING EQUATIONS WITH VARIABLES ON BOTH SIDES
02 – 4a Unit Rates PA Grade 7, Math Anchor M07.A-R Compute unit rates associated with ratios of fractions, including ratios of lengths, areas, and.
STAAR REVIEW RATES & UNIT RATES. GETTING THE IDEA A rate is a comparison, or ratio, of two quantities with different units. For example, a store sells.
P. 26 #11-15, 23-27, 37, 39, 45, 47.
To write and graph an equation of a direct variation
Writing and Solving Proportions. Proportions Proportion is an equation stating that two ratios are equivalent. Proportional are two quantities that form.
1.4 Direct Variation and Proportion
Direct and Indirect Proportion. What is Direct Proportion? If a quantity ‘A’ is directly proportional to another quantity ‘B’, this means that if ‘A’
