OCR CLAiT Suite History –Foundation - Quality, reliability, robustness Now –Relevance – Validity, value, currency Computer Based Assessment –Innovative - fit-for-purpose, harness and exploit technology

History First introduced in early 1980s (Revised several times since then – just as ICT use has developed) 2004-2005: c200,000 (unit) entries over Levels 1, 2 and 3

Now – September 2005 Revised CLAiT (2006) - OCR Certificate/Diploma for IT Users –Paper Based (locally assessed, OCR moderated) –Microsoft Office Specialist (Microsoft CBA) –Computer Based Assessment (OCR CBA) –E-portfolio Based (locally assessed, OCR moderated)

Now Revised CLAiT (2006) - OCR Certificate/Diploma for IT Users –Paper Based (locally assessed, OCR moderated) –Microsoft Office Specialist (Microsoft CBA) –Computer Based Assessment (OCR CBA) –E-portfolio Based (locally assessed, OCR moderated) Level 2 – CLAiT Plus

Paper Based Assessment Level 2: 1.Candidates take the test saving their work and printing out as specified 2.Tutor marks the printouts 3.A ‘batch’ of work is sent to the OCR moderator for checking 4.Moderator report sent to OCR 5.Certificates sent out

Computer Based Assessment Acknowledgement of technology partners: Largo Technologies Electric Paper ALIA Systems

Computer Based Assessment Level 2 1.Candidate logs into a secure system to access the (2 part) test: Part 1 – In-application (MS Word, Excel, Access) Part 2 – Simulation

Computer Based Assessment Level 2 – Part 1 1.The test system launches the appropriate application file for the test 2.A floating ‘task instruction’ window appears above the application window 3.Candidates work in the application to achieve the assessment task, saving the file(s) as instructed 4.At the end of the part 1 test the candidate submits the files for assessment with a single key press

Test task Marker model answer Candidate file If different - assessment objective rule applied = Critical/Accuracy error Result = Pass/Fail

Computer Based Assessment Level 2 – Part 2 1.The test system launches a task window with a simulated work area above 2.Before attempting a question the candidate has the option of skipping it and returning to it at the end of the test 3.When candidate carries out the specified task they have the option of submitting it or trying again before moving on to the next item

Results determination: 1.At the end of the test the results for part 1 and part 2 are combined to produce an overall test result 2.The test result is available to the Centre through the administration system 3.Combines the best standard computer based testing, innovative computer based testing to ensure the most valid and reliable judgements of competence Computer Based Assessment

Advantages of CBA: 1.Burden and anxiety of local assessment removed 2.No postage – lower risk/lower costs/lower admin 3.Quick and efficient results determination 4.Modern fit-for-purpose assessment method in line with customer expectations 5.Win (Centre) - Win (Student) - Win (OCR)
