READING GOALS Strengthen both reading and comprehension skills through the use of informational and literary texts Build confidence by helping students to successfully internalize reading and writing techniques, guiding them to eventual independent use Enhance student’s vocabulary usage by word walls, context clues, encouragement of replacing “tired” words in their writing with more effective, mature vocabulary Expand critical thinking skills, utilizing textual evidence through class dialogue, reading responses and small group activities

5. INDEPENDENT READING It is strongly encouraged that independent reading be promoted at home. Even 20 minutes a day can help your child to become a better reader. Students will be responsible for completing monthly reading logs.

6. MONTHLY READING CALENDAR Each month, your child will receive a calendar to log their daily independent reading Please initial each night your child reads Encourage 20 minutes of independent reading nightly Please be sure your child is reading a variety of both fiction and non-fiction Students are always welcome to visit Mrs. Lauber in the middle school library for guidance on new titles
