2 How much do you know about Nazi Germany? the state of Germany 1933 to 1945.Nazi Germany (or the Third Reich) refers to the state of Germany from 1933 to 1945. a totalitarian state Adolf Hitler, Nazi partyIt was a totalitarian state ruled by a dictator, Adolf Hitler, and his Nazi party. “ One People, One Country, One Leader”The slogan of the Nazi Party: “ One People, One Country, One Leader”. The word “Nazi” meant “Nationalozialist “ in German in the past. Now, it mainly refers to Right-wing politics of fascism.

4 Religion  Under Nazi control  Nazi bishops were appointed and those who opposed Hitler on religious and moral grounds (to the Jews) were sent into the concentration camps.  Most people were Catholics or Protestants.  The Nazis hated Jews (even implemented genocide)  Believed in Aryan faith Cardinal Adolf Bertram, ex officio head of the German church from 1920-1945

5 Literature & Education  Promoted the works of writers such as Adolf Bartels and Hitler Youth poet Hans Baumann,  Established a "black list" to facilitate the removal of "unacceptable" books from public libraries.  German cultural authorities promoted war novels in order to prepare the population for conflict. Books were burning in Nazi Germany

6 Art (architecture)  Nazi architecture was an aspect of Nazi plans to create a cultural and spiritual rebirth in Germany.  Neo-classical( 新古典主義 ), monumental style  The individuals were dwarfed in front of the building that represented absolute authority.  More traditional, local Germanic style for homes

7 Art (painting)  Nazi art was clear, direct and heroic.  Germans could understand and inspired by.  People are drawn not as individuals but as heroic idealizations such as healthy peasants, brave warriors and productive woman. Hitler was drawn as the wise, imperious leader.  The art work did not reflect the real world so much as the Nazi ideology did.

9 Entertainment (movies & music) Cinema:  The majority of German films of the period were designed principally as works of entertainment.  Import of foreign films was legally restricted after 1936  Entertainment became more important in the later years of World War II when the cinema provided a distraction from Allied bombing and a string of German defeats. Music:  Experimental music (e.g. the atonal compositions of Schoenberg) was banned  A stream of musicians emigrated  Music was less suitable as a means of explicit propaganda  Folk operas were developed

10 Sports  The Nazis used sporst as propaganda.  Organized sporting activities, especially gymnastic, for the masses. Impact:  These helped to develop the fit bodies that soldiers & child- bearers required.  They also encouraged sporst as a spectator activity. Olympic Stadium in Berlin 1936

11 Men  Take part in the war  Training of war  Work for the nation Women  Raise many children  Look after her family  Being a good homemaker Role of women in Nazi Germany

12 Impacts  Hitler uphels Nazism, that means all aspects of the culture should include this idea.  All the aspects (art, music, living style, etc) of people’s life were under Nazi control.  All the artists and composers had to follow the rules of the Nazism when they were creating their work.  People didn't have the right to create their own work.  People didn't have freedom to choose their jobs or living.
