Understand the Role of Self-Diagnosis Websites On the next three slides is an overview of Self-Diagnosis websites. Using this information and research from the internet. Describe and Explain benefits and drawbacks to using Self-Diagnosis(at least four).

“Is there a doctor in the house?” No need – I have my PDA. I’ll look on www.yourdiagnosis.com!

Self-diagnosis…. …is the process of diagnosing, or identifying, medical conditions in oneself. It may be assisted by medical dictionaries, books, resources on the Internet, past personal experiences, or recognizing symptoms or medical signs of a condition that a family member previously had.

“I’m not that impressed with them. They tend to err on the side of caution and can produce panic and a demand for urgent consultations. Many are also commercially driven so will point people to certain 'diagnoses' and remedies. As with much on the internet, gullible and vulnerable people are too easily drawn in. However, once a diagnosis has been made by a doctor, they’re ok to refer to.” Dr Tim Mitchell, Montpelier Health Centre What do doctors say about self diagnosis websites?

EPR (Electronic Patient Records) One of the first advances in IT within the health care sector was the use of computerised patient records. Look at the next two slides about EPR systems and come up with a list of benefits and drawbacks of using EPR.

All appointments, visits and biopsies are recorded

What do doctors say about electronic patient records? “I can read my notes on a computer screen so doctor's handwriting is not a problem any more! The computer automatically checks for interactions between drugs which is a good safety factor. With all the patients' records on computer we can do research and audit much more easily” Dr Tim Mitchell, Montpelier Health Centre

Some Images to consider Use the images below to give you thoughts about the benefits and drawbacks of the system. The number in brackets hints at the size of the word (4,10) (6) (6,6) (5,4,9)

Inputs, Processes, Outputs You need to have completed the case study section of the work before attempting this task. IF you have not done this click here to jump to that task. here If you have completed that task, click below to move on ot this task.

Flow Chart Help Break it down into the different steps first. You can use Inspiration or other software suitable for this task. Then think about each step: 1)Does it give you something. 2)Does it require you to do something 3)Does it do something automatically/by itself 1 is inputs, 1 is processes, 1 is outputs.
