Coral Reef Biome By Hamad Al Thani 6B 10/01/2013.

General facts about the corral reef The corral reef is a biome that is found in a shallow area of clear water. Usually the tempercher of the water is between 70 and 85 degrees. In addition to that you will easily find corral reefs in Australia. You will even find the great barrier reef in Australia, which is the largest reef in the world. It is made up of different plant, rocks and animals such as coral, algae, different fishes. This makes the coral reefs colorful and beautiful. "Coral Reef Plants." : Plant Life of Coral Reef Ecosystems. N.p., n.d. Web. 13 Jan. 2013

There are lots of deferent types of creatures in the coral reef that have not yet have names and they are so tiny so I will only tell you the basic creatures in the coral reef. There are sharks, butterfish, Nudibranches, sea stars, cuttle fish and clown fish. Also there are also reptiles such as turtles and sea snakes. All in all there are thousands of animals reefs there home. There are more than 1500 species of fish that inhabit the great barrier reef. The size of the tiny gobies that weigh one gram than the other bony fish. There are also massive bone structured fish such like shark and Damselfish also the other types. Animals on a the coral

Clown Fish Clown fish can live in all anemone even the harmful ones. So now clown fish are not even affected by the stings of the anemone. They are one the only sea creatures where the male takes care of the young. "True Wild Life." Clown Fish. N.p., n.d. Web. 13 Jan. 2013.

Turtles Turtles have the ability to live in salty waters. Green sea turtles stay under water for up to 5 hours. "Coral Reef Plants." : Plant Life of Coral Reef Ecosystems. N.p., n.d. Web. 13 Jan. 2013

Damselfish Damselfish do not eat meat so it is easier for them to find food in coral reefs. They are also very protective of there home even against larger fish. "Bonaire Dive and Adventure." Bonaire Dive and Adventure. N.p., n.d. Web. 13 Jan. 2013.

Starfish star fish are sensitive to the light and the bottom is affected by different types of chemicals. Starfish can use the suction cups on their legs to float on water. "Starfish." :Tropical Marine and Freshwater Fish. N.p., n.d. Web. 13 Jan. 2013.

Marine Algae marine Algae help to build the corral reef because:  It marks the perimeter of the coral reef.  Gets made in large amounts.  Very important food source for the fish living in the coral reefs. Technology: "Mission 2013 - Algae." Mission 2013 - Algae. N.p., n.d. Web. 13 Jan. 2013.

Sea grasses Sea grasses have changed to resist a lot of salinity (salt). They can also live in a temperatures between -6 to 40 degrees Celsius. They are used as homes for many different plants and animals. "Seagrass Meadows." Seagrass Meadows. N.p., n.d. Web. 13 Jan. 2013.

Mangroves Mangroves have adapted so that there roots can take in oxygen from above the water. Mangroves can also live in very salty seas. In addition to that they create homes for animals and fish. "Mangroves In Puerto Rico." Http://en.wikipedia.org/. N.p., n.d. Web. 13 Jan. 2013.

Locations of Coral Reefs Around the World "NASA - NASA Coral Reef Images Key to New Global Survey." NASA - NASA Coral Reef Images Key to New Global Survey. N.p., n.d. Web. 13 Jan. 2013.

Desalination Machines  The desalination machines affect the biome because when it desalinates the quality of the water changes for the worst making it harder for the animals to live in.  Right now desalination machines are one of the only ways o getting water in some countries so it is good. Though on the other hand it changes the quality of the water for the worse.  Desalination happens in coral reefs because people need desalinated water to drink everyday  desalination machines should manufacture their water in smaller amounts or use a different resource to get desalinated water.

Oil Spills  Oil spills affect the coral reefs because it poisons the plants and fish. It also stops the animals from breathing because the oil gets stuck in their gills.  To prevent oil spills we can make sure that the ships are in good condition before tey leave the port.  Oil spills happen in coral reefs because sometimes ships leek and the oil goes into the sea.  These affects are bad because it stops the animal from breathing and poisons the plants and fish.
