Beware of A Gospel Without Repentance

2 Introduction We rightly defend God’s gospel plan of salvation stating faith in Jesus must lead us to repent of our sins, confess Jesus as the Son of God and be baptized for forgiveness of sins Many sinfully add or subtracts from the gospel Example – those who add the Sinner’s Prayer and reject baptism for forgiveness of sins

3 What We Must Do To Be Saved Act 2:36 "Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ--this Jesus whom you crucified." Act 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brethren, what shall we do?"

4 What We Must Do To Be Saved Act 2:38 Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

7 Beware of A Gospel Without Repentance Today, among us, we are seeing a failure to call people to repent of their sins before and after baptism Some have been baptized while living together unmarried Others have been baptized while living in marriages God calls adultery Others in openly sinful situations who have been baptized worship with local churches who do not teach them to repent

8 Beware of A Gospel Without Repentance Are we being deceived by believing and practicing a gospel without repentance? Some question whether we have the authority to call on those to repent of openly known sin before they are baptized But, as with all topics, let us turn to the Word of God for the answer

10 What Is Repentance? metanoia (G3341), "afterthought, change of mind, repentance," “In the NT the subject chiefly has reference to "repentance" from sin, and this change of mind involves both a turning from sin and a turning to God.” Vine’s Complete Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words

11 Godly Sorrow Produces Repentance 2Co 7:9 I now rejoice, not that you were made sorrowful, but that you were made sorrowful to the point of repentance; for you were made sorrowful according to the will of God, so that you might not suffer loss in anything through us. 2Co 7:10 For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death.

16 Repentance of Sins When Becoming A Christian Rom 6:1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? Rom 6:2 May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?

17 Repentance of Sins When Becoming A Christian Rom 6:3 Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? Rom 6:4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.

20 Repentance of Sins When Becoming A Christian Paul says if we continue living in sin, we cannot inherit the kingdom of God These sins include stealing, drunkenness, idolatry and fornication (unlawful sexual relations outside of Scriptural marriage) This includes living together unmarried, homosexuality and marriages God calls adultery

Rom 1:26 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, Rom 1:27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.

What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate."

29 Repentance of Sins Living As A Christian Act 8:21 "You have no part or portion in this matter, for your heart is not right before God. Act 8:22 "Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray the Lord that, if possible, the intention of your heart may be forgiven you.
