A tutorial on how to compute H-index using Web of Science database

What is a H-index? An index that quantifies both the actual scientific productivity and the apparent scientific impact of a scientist A scholar with an index of 40 means that the scholar has published 40 papers each of which has been cited by others at least 40 times Source: Wikipedia

Go to “www.lib.nus.edu.sg”

Click on the hyperlink for the “Web of Science” database

Login to NUSNET

Select the “Author” option and then click on “Author Finder” function that appears to specifically search for the author 1 2

Author Finder step 1: enter author name 1 2

Author Finder step 2: select the correct author variant 1 2

Author Finder step 3: select subject category 1 2

Author Finder step 4: select institution(s) 1 2

On the results page, select “Show 50 per page” to maximize the number of hits shown per page

Select the relevant articles and then “Add to Marked List” 1 2

Those added to the marked list are shown with a tick sign. Next, click on “Create Citation Report” 1 2

Save the citation report using the output records function available at the bottom of the page You have to save multiple times if there are more than 10 hits, as each page only displays 10 records
